Dalai Lama Joke

I didn't compose this joke but here's my version combining 2 punch-lines by Karl Stefanovic & P Smears. If the people you're telling to don't get the first punch-line, hopefully they'll get the second one. You can read where I got this HERE.
A Dalai Lama walks into a pizza shop and says, "Can you make me one with everything?".
After the Dalai Lama got his pizza, he paid it with a $100 bill. When the pizza-cashier took the $100 bill, the Dalai Lama asked for his change. "Change," said the pizza-cashier, "must come from within."
The video below shows the first half of the joke (the first punch-line) by Karl Sefanovic. The second punch-line by P Smears you can read HERE.

Dalai Lama Joke

Sometimes, even good jokes fall flat.
Here's the classic that failed.

A Dalai Lama walks into a pizza shop and says,
"Can you make me one with everything?".
~ Karl Stefanovic, Australian TV Presenter & Anchor for "Today," Channel Nine, 2011 Jun 15.

Videos on YouTube:

Karl Sefanovic tries to tell a Dalai Lama joke - to the Dalai Lama.

I found this on the internet that I thought added more to the joke...

I'm not sure if this question is on topic (maybe it just needs to be rephrased), but since this made global headlines due to the Dalai Lama not being able to understand it, I figure most non-native speakers would have trouble getting the joke too. {The Dalai Lama walks into a pizza shop and says "can you make me one with everything?"} As can be seen, the Dalai Lama was a bit confused. The thing is, I don't get it either. Is there some sort of pun in there somewhere? Can someone please explain to me why this is a joke?

Here's the best answer:
The joke here is the use of the phrase one with everything. It can be used with either of the following meanings. 1). Spiritual: to be one with everything means to be unified with everything else. This is a main concept in Buddhism, Hinduism, etc. where one feels that everything else is a part of self. To be one with everything is one of the higher aims of such religions. 2). The other meaning of the phrase is to get a pizza with every (available) topping.

Here's an answer that I thought was hilarious:
After the Dalai Lama got his pizza, he paid it with a $100 bill. When the pizza-cashier took the $100 bill, the Dalai Lama asked for his change. "Change," said the pizza-cashier, "must come from within."

English Punctuation Jokes

These jokes addresses the importance of the punctuation.

A Panda

A panda walks into a café. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and proceeds to fire it at the other patrons. 'Why?' asks the confused, surviving waiter amidst the carnage, as the panda makes towards the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder. 'Well, I'm a panda,' he says, at the door. 'Look it up.' The waiter turns to the relevant entry in the manual and, sure enough, finds an explanation. 'Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves.'

The joke is putting the comma after "Eats" as in...
"Eats, shoots and leaves" instead of...
"Eats shoots and leaves".

You can read more about this here at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eats,_Shoots_%26_Leaves

Dear John

Dear John, I want a man who knows what love is all about.  You are generous, kind, thoughtful.  People who are not like you admit to being useless and inferior.  You have ruined me for other men.  I yearn for you.  I have no feelings whatsoever when we're apart.  I can be forever happy - will you let me be yours?, Betty.

Dear John, I want a man who knows what love is.  All about you are generous, kind, thoughtful people, who are not like you.  Admit to being useless and inferior.  You have ruined me.  For other men, I yearn.  For you, I  have no feelings whatsoever.  When we're apart, I can be forever happy.  Will you let me be?, Yours, Betty.

Both paragraphs simulating a written letter have the exact same words... but with punctuation at different places... the meanings between the first and second letter is very different.

Your Grandpa's Life Depends Upon It

Let's eat Grandpa!
Let's eat, Grandpa!

Commas... they save lives.

Who's supplying the drugs?

Say 'NO' to Drugs from your Neighborhood Police Officers.

That one missing comma turned police officers into drug dealers. It should be...

Say 'NO' to Drugs, from your Neighborhood Police Officers.

A Father & Son Song ~ I Still Can't Say Goodbye ~ Chet Atkins ~ Lyrics ~ YouTube

I Still Can't Say Goodbye ~ Chet Atkins ~ Lyrics ~ YouTube

When I was young, my Dad would say
Come on Son let's go out and play
Sometimes it seems like yesterday

Then I'd climb up the closet shelf
When I was all by my-self
Grab his hat and fix the brim
Pretending I was him

No matter how hard I try
No matter how many tears I cry
No matter how many years go by
I still can't say good-bye

He always took care of Mom and me.
We all cut down a Christmas tree
He always had some time for me

Wind blows through the trees
Street lights, they still shine bright
Most things are the same
but I miss my Dad to-night

I walked by a Salvation Army store
Saw a hat like my daddy wore
Tried it on when I walked in
Still trying to be like him

No matter how hard I try
No matter how many years go by
No matter how many tears I cry
I still can't say good-bye

Whoa Sailor ~ Hank Thomson ~ Lyrics & Chords ~ YouTube Video

Whoa Sailor ~ Hank Thomson ~ Lyrics & Chords

[A] I'll tell you 'bout
my [E7] night on shore,
if [A] you will lend an [E7] ear
I [B7]stepped into a cabaret
to get myself a [E7] beer
A [A]pretty girl sat all alone
and needed compa- [E7] -ny
When [B7] I got close, this gal arose,
this is what she said to [E7] me

Now she said [A] whoa sailor,
be [A7] careful what you [D] do
In your eye there's a gleam,
and to me it seems,
your [A] just like all the [F#] rest,
with a [B7] wolfish eye,
and a line that's sly,
a [E7] salior's at his [A] best.

[A] Now look here babe,
you've [E7] got me wrong ,
I'm [A] not that sort of [E7] guy
I [B7] just got back,
from across the sea,
where there are no gals [E7] arie.
Now [A] let me talk to you a while,
I'm sure you'll see my [E7] way
When I [B7] went to spout,
she turned about,
this is what she had to [E7] say

Now she said [A] whoa sailor,
I've [A7] heard that line be- [D] -fore
You'll look into my eyes, and tell me lies,
and [A] tales of the seven [F#] seas,
But a [B7] sailor's full, of that kinda bull,
so [E7] don't hand it to [A] me

[A] Oh pretty girl
you've [E] let me down
you've [A] broken my poor [E7] heart
And [B7] oh how it hurt,
when you had to spurt,
that last sad re- [E7] -mark
I [A] said I think, I have a drink,
and I broke out six month's [E7] pay
With [B7] wide open eyes,
she breathed a sigh,
this time she had to [E7] say

Now she said [A] oh sailor boy,
I [A7] think you've won my [D] heart
Well she was right neat,
and she sure was sweet,
but I [A] knew she was that [F#] sort.
But she's [B7] not all to blame,
'cause it's a sailor's aim,
to have a [E7] girl in every [A] port.

Poetic Lyrics in Country Music

I thought the words were poetic about not letting anyone drag you down with them.

Miranda Lambert - Baggage Claim - CMA Awards 2011
Baggage Claim ~ Miranda Lambert (Lyrics)

I have been draggin' around your sensitive ego
Making sure that your bags arrive on time for the dog and pony show
A little suitcase like a brick,
It kinda makes it hard to get a good grip
I drop your troubles off at the conveyor belt,
I'll hand you a ticket to go get it yourself

At the baggage claim, you got a lot of luggage in your name
When you hit the ground, check the lost and found
Cause it ain't my problem now
I can't carry it on, I've got a lot of troubles on my own
It's all over the yard, in the trunk of the car,
I'm packin' it in, so come and get it.

If it ain't obvious what has set me off today,
Behind every woman scorned is a man who made her that way
Go on and take your little business trip with that sweet little habit
That you can't kick
You better call your momma when you get to town
Cause I ain't gonna be hangin' around

At the baggage claim, you got a lot of luggage in your name
When you hit the ground, check the lost and found
Because it ain't my problem now
I can't carry it on, I've got a lot of troubles of my own
It's all over the yard, in the trunk of the car,
I'm packin' it in, so come and get it

Come and get it!

Come and pick it up, pick it up
Before I blow it up in flames
You better pick it up, pick it up,
Baby, I'm leaving everything...

At the baggage claim, you got a lot of luggage in your name
And when you hit the ground, check the lost and found
Cause it ain't my problem now
I can't carry it on, I've got a lot of troubles of my own
It's all over the yard, in the trunk of the car,
Well I'm packin' it in, so come and get it

Come and get your shit!

Lord, make me know your ways.

Make me walk in your truth, and teach me:
for you are God my sa-viour.

he guides the humble in the right path;
he teach-es his way to the poor.

Christmas Wish & ASCII Art

I didn't write this... but I love it... and all the ASCII Art creations below...

May you have the gladness of Christmas which is hope;
The spirit of Christmas which is peace;
The heart of Christmas which is love.
Like the Christmas that fulfills our needs ...
to be forgiven from greed and selfishness,
to fill our empty soul with peace and compassion,
for hope and faith and charity,
for oneself renewed and hope restored in an erring world.
May your Christmas cheer run throughout the year
May the closeness of friends and the comfort of home, renew your spirits this Christmas
We're wrapped in the excitement of it all.
We focus on our Friends,And appreciate the gift of knowing you!"
Wishing you a joyous Christmas and a most prosperous, magnificent and Healthy New Year.

Your Smiling Soul

Dedicated to all those who need to smile a bit more.

‎"Discovering Your Smiling Soul. When you shift into spiritual awareness, you may appear to be living the same life as before, with the same ambitions, joys, and sorrows as before. However, inside, you have a radiant smile that may or may not be visible to the world. Your spiritual soul smiles through the good times and the bad. In fact, as your smiling soul shines more and more into the world around you, the world also begins to reflect your smile back at you. Do you ever find yourself smiling even when no one else is around? If not, try it! Smile to yourself. Smile at being alive. Smile to God, who is always present where you are -- closer than your own breath." ~ Unknown

Now Redemption Long Expected ~ Lyrics to Hymn by John Cennick

Now redemption, long expected,
see in solemn pomp appear;
all his saints, by man rejected,
now shall meet him in the air:
Alleluia! Alleluia!
See the day of God appear!

I find this interesting for inspiration of Tunes to be used in SATB arrangments.

John Cennick, 1718-1755.

Julian's account is as follows:

John Cennick, a prolific and successful hymn-writer, was descended from a family of Quakers, but brought up in the Church of England. He assisted J. Wesley and then G. Whitefield in their labours for a time, and then passed over to, and died as a minister of the Moravian Church. Born at Reading, Dec. 12th. 1718, he was for some time a land surveyor at Reading, but, becoming acquainted with the Wesleys in 1739, he was appointed by J. Wesley as a teacher of a school for colliers' children at Kingswood in the following year. This was followed by his becoming a lay preacher, but in 1740 he parted from the Wesleys on doctrinal grounds. He assisted Whitefield until 1745, when he joined the Moravians, and was ordained deacon in London, in 1749. His duties led him twice to Germany and also to the North of Ireland. He died in London, July 4th. 1755. Cennick wrote a few prose works and some sermons. He also published a few volumes of hymns. Some of the stanzas of his hymns are very fine, but the hymns taken as a whole are most unequal. Some excellent centos might be compiled from his various works. His religious experiences were given as a preface to his Sacred Hymns, 1741.

Cennick's contribution to 'Spiritual Songs' is found in no. 170, verse 2.

Julian has some interesting comments on this hymn. It shows how hymns are altered in the course of time. 170 is a cento, its composition being arrived at by compiling lines from different authors. Here is Julian's account:- "Lo! He comes with clouds descending, Once for favoured sinners slain"(The Second Advent) The hymn in modern collections which opens with these lines is a cento of a somewhat complicated character. The first form of the hymn is by John Cennick. There is evidence to show that it was sung by the congregation of the Moravian Chapel, in Dublin, on April 20th. 1750; but the earliest printed text known appeared in the fifth (1752) ed. of Cennick's Collection of Sacred Hymns, etc., Dublin, Samuel Powell.

It would take up too much space to give the three renderings contained in Julian's account. It will suffice to point out one or two verses.

"Lo! He cometh, countless trumpets
Blow before His bloody sign!
'Midst ten thousand saints and angels,
See the Crucified shine.
Welcome, welcome bleeding Lamb!

Lo! He comes with clouds descending,
Once for favoured sinners slain!
Thousand, thousand saints attending,
Swell the triumph of His train:
God appears on earth to reign!

Lo! He comes with clouds descending
Once for favoured sinners slain!
Thousand, thousand saints attending
Swell the triumph of His train.
Hallelujah! Amen! (Madan's alteration).

Now the verse attributed to Cennick:

Now redemption, long expected,
See! in solemn pomp appear.
All His people, once despised
Now shall meet Him in the air!
Now the promised Kingdom's come.

Now redemption long expected
See! In solemn pomp appear!
All His saints, by man rejected,
Now shall meet Him in the Air!
See the Son of God appear!

Wigram, 1856.

See the Saviour long expected,
Now in solemn pomp appear!
And His saints, by man rejected
All His heavenly glory share.
See the Son of God appear!

W. Kelly, 1894 has "See the Son of Man appear!"

From what is written here it would be accurate to say that the cento as we have it in 'Spiritual Songs' can be attributed to Cennick, Wesley, Madan and possibly Wigram. It is an excellent example of the changes that can take place in a hymn as it passes through different hands and used in different companies.

The cento is popular with the believers gathered to the Lord's Name and using the Little Flock Hymn Book. It is included in all editions from 1856 to 1978.

1. Now Redemption long expected
Look, my soul, be still and gaze;
All the promises do travail
With a glorious day of grace.
Blessed Jubilee!
Let thy glorious morning dawn.

2. Yea, Amen! let all adore Thee,
High on Thine eternal throne!
Saviour, take the power and glory,
Claim the kingdom for Thine own.

Welcome to the Son of God!
3. Full of joyful expectation,
May this thought our courage raise;
There, with all the host of Heaven,
May we sing Thine endless praise.
Boundless glory to the Lamb!

Sheet Music

Note from Pickard-Cambridge: Verse 1 (except first line) from O'er the gloomy hills of darknesss by Wm Williams of Pantycelyn, 1772. Verse 1, line 1 and verse 2 (except last 2 lines) from hymns by John Cennick (1718-1755) and Charles Wesley (1707-1788) respectively, combined by M Madan (1760) into the hymn Lo, He comes with clouds descending, as now generally printed.

Merry Christmas
Don't forget to wrap your presents.

Prayer for Jon

Dear heavenly Father... we pray for Jon and those dearest to him, his parents and his younger sister. We're all helpless... but all the more... we need to feel your presence... we need to feel your love for us. You created us... surely you have bigger plans for each and every one of us. Jon now has other complications... please be with his family as they go through the daily tasks of deciding what's best for him. Help them decide what needs to be done. Dear God... help us understand why love has to be so painful. Your own son, our Lord Jesus Christ, bore much pain when he died on the cross for us. Hear our prayer for the Jonathan and his loved ones and if it is your will, may he get better. Amen.

Got this from the Novena Booklet.

Prayer For The Sick
Lord Jesus Christ, You bore our sufferings and carried our sorrows, hear our prayers for the sick. Help them to unite themselves with Your sufferings, and if it is Your will, may they get better. Let them never forget that You care for them. Amen.

Cake ~ FLOR Pâtisserie

I just had a sample yesterday of the Chocolate Log Cake.
Very Nice. I'm going to visit them when I get the chance.

FLOR Pâtisserie

FLOR Pâtisserie is a Japanese-styled patisserie serving authentic Japanese inspired French pastry, where you can choose to dine in or to take out.

We take pride in using only the freshest and best quality ingredients in our pastries that have been sourced from overseas (Japan, Belgium, and France), and locally. To add to that, our chef from Japan brings with him over 20 years of Japanese baking techniques, and has spent a year and a half tailoring our signature cakes to suit the climate and taste of Singapore.

We do not use baking powder, artificial rising/softening agents, stabilisers, or preservatives in our products. The soft yet moist quality of our cakes is achieved from the natural aeration of eggs being whipped to their full peak.

Made entirely of natural and fresh ingredients, it is no surprise that our pastries do not keep well. As we want our customers to be able to enjoy freshly baked cakes every day, all unsold fresh cream cakes are either sold at a discount at the end of the day, or are disposed of.

If we won't eat it, we won't serve itFLOR Pâtisserie firmly believes in using only the best ingredients to create beautiful-tasting pastries. Our chef ensures that all pastries that come out of the kitchen are at the peak of harmony in flavours as well as in colours.

Why Flor?

'Flor' is a Portuguese word for flower, and is pronounced in Japanese as 'fu-ro-ru'. Widely recognised and accepted as a symbolic representation of love, passion, and beauty, the flower embodies the delicate balance of nature and beauty.

Chef Yamashita draws his inspiration for his cakes from flowers, and in turn, incorporates the symbolic elements of flowers into his sweet creations.

Like the flower that is a gift from Mother Nature, Chef Yamashita's gift to you is his selection of delectable and colourful offerings, which are his interpretation of the colours, freshness, and life of a flourishing floral garden.

Jack & Jill ~ "Could Have" vs "Couldn't Have"

Jack: I "could" have done it.

Jill: If you "could have", why didn't you?

Jack: Something stopped me.

Jill: That means you "couldn't have" done it even if you wanted to.

Jack: I "could have" but there were to many obstacles then.

Jill: It's because of those obstacles that you "couldn't have" done it.

Jack: If I knew then what I know now I "could have" done it.

If you were back there now, you still
wouldn't know what you know now,
so you still "couldn't have" done it.

Jack: I think... I just broke my crown.

Classic Insult Reply

Go have a drink, go get something to eat...
then call your mother (we all love our mothers)...
then crawl back under that rock you call home.

Rock = Cavemen live in rocks, caves... etc.

Where have you been all these years?

Paul Anka Tribute - "Times of Your Life" - 1975 Classic

Times of Your Life ~ Paul Anka (Lyrics)

Good morning, yesterday
You wake up and time has slipped away
And suddenly it's hard to find
The memories you left behind
Remember, do you remember

The laughter and the tears
The shadows of misty yesteryears
The good times and the bad you've seen
And all the others in between
Remember, do you remember
The times of your life (do you remember)

Reach back for the joy and the sorrow
Put them away in your mind
The mem'ries are time that you borrow
To spend when you get to tomorrow

Here comes the saddest part
The seasons are passing one by one
So gather moments while you may
Collect the dreams you dream today
Remember, will you remember
The times of your life

Gather moments while you may
Collect the dreams you dream today
Remember, will you remember
The times of your life
Of your life
Of your life

Do you remember, baby
Do you remember the times of your life
