Responsorial Psalm 95 ~ Christmas Midnight Mass (Year ABC)

Responsorial Psalm 95

Response:
Today a saviour has been born to us; he is Christ the Lord.

V1
O sing a new song to the Lord,
sing to the Lord all the earth.
O sing to the Lord, bless his name.

V2
Proclaim his help day by day,
tell among the nations his glory
and his wonders among all the peoples.

V3
Let the heavens rejoice and earth be glad,
let the sea and all within it thunder praise,
let the land and all it bears rejoice,
all the trees of the wood shout for joy
at the presence of the Lord for he comes,
he comes to rule the earth.

V4
With justice he will rule the world,
he will judge the peoples with his truth.

Psalm 125 ~ Friend's Version of My Original

This psalm was sung today, 30th Ordinary Sunday (Year B).

Here is a friend's version of this psalm, which was a variation of my original composition.

This is an example of the flexibility I allow in interpreting my arrangements/compositions.

A friend of mine was on duty as Cantor and liked the tune of the last verse and wanted to make all the verses the same. We worked together and came up with this version which I equally like. She even altered the melody to suit her voice & range... and raised the key from C Major of D Major.

My only 2 comments were,
1). I think tempo should be a little faster.
2). Microphone was too near the Choir (too loud) but I understand the constraints.

For a look at my original composition to compare, click HERE.

What marvels the Lord worked for us, indeed we were glad.

When the Lord delivered Zion from bondage,
it seemed like a dream.
Then was our mouth filled with laughter,
on our lips there were songs.

The heathens themselves said: "What marvels

V3
Deliver us, O Lord, from our bondage
as streams in dry land.
Those who are sowing in tears
will sing when they reap.

V4
They go out, they go out, full of tears,
carrying seed for the sowing:
they come back, they come back, full of song,
carrying their sheaves.

May the Lord bless us all the days of our life.

[V1]
O blessed are those who fear the Lord
and walk in his ways!
By the labour of your hands you shall eat.
You will be happy and prosper.

[V2]
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
in the heart of your house;
your children like shoots of the olive,
around your table.

[V3]
Indeed thus shall be blessed the man who fears the Lord.
May the Lord bless you from Zion
in a happy Jerusalem
all the days of your life!
May you see your children's children.
On Israel, peace!

26th Ordinary Sunday (Year B)
Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 18)

R/.
The precepts of the Lord gladden the heart.
The precepts of the Lord gladden the heart.

V1
The law of the Lord is perfect.
It revives the soul.
The rule of the Lord is to be trusted,
it gives wisdom to the simple.

V2
The fear of the Lord is holy,
abiding for ever.
The decrees of the Lord are truth
and all of them just.

V3
So in them your servant finds instruction
great reward is in their keeping.
But who can detect all his errors?
From hidden faults acquit me.

V4
From presumption restrain your servant
and let it not rule me.
Then shall I be blameless,
clean from grave sin.

R
The Lord upholds my life.

1
O God, save me by your name;
by your power uphold my cause.
O God, hear my prayer;
listen to the words of my mouth.

2
For proud men have risen against me,
ruthless men seek my life.
They have no regard for God.

3
But I have God for my help.
The Lord upholds my life.
I will sacrifice to you with willing heart
and praise your name for it is good.

Psalm 145:7-10

[R/.]
My soul, give praise to the Lord.

[V1]
It is the Lord who keeps faith for ever,
who is just to those who are oppressed.
It is he who gives bread to the hungry,
the Lord, who sets prisoners free.

[V2]
It is the Lord who gives sight to the blind,
who raises up those who are bowed down,
the Lord who loves the just,
the Lord, who protects the stranger.

[V3]
The Lord upholds the widow and orphan,
but thwarts the path of the wicked.
The Lord will reign for ever,
Zion's God from age to age.

Option 2 ~ My soul give praise to the Lord. Alleluia! My soul give praise to the Lord.

Option 3 ~ My soul give praise to the Lord. Alleluia! My soul give praise to the Lord. Alleluia!.

Option 4 ~ Or you can let the choir sing the 2 Alleluia!s in harmony while you hold on the word 'Lord' with the congregation.

Response 2: Lord, who shall be admitted to your tent?

V1
Lord, who shall dwell on your ho-ly mountain?
He who walks with-out fault;
He who acts with justice and speaks the truth from his heart;
He who does not slander with his tongue.

V2

He who does no wrong to his brother,
Who casts no slur on his neighbour,
Who holds the godless in disdain,
But honours those who fear the Lord.

V3

And accepts no bribes a-gainst the innocent.
Such a man will stand firm for ever.

The Lord will guard us as a shepherd guards his flock.

Hear the word of the LORDnations,
proclaim it on distant isles, and say:
He who scattered Israel, now gathers them together,

With you is the fountain of life, O Lord.

O LORD, your mercy reaches to heaven;
your faithfulness, to the clouds.
Your justice is like the mountains of God;
your judgments, like the mighty deep.

[V2]
How precious is your mercy, O God!
The children of men take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They have their fill of the prime gifts of your house;
from your delightful stream you give them to drink.

[V3]
For with you is the fountain of life,
and in your light we see light.
Keep up your mercy toward your friends,
your just defense of the upright of heart.

I couldn't decide on which melody to settle on,
so I'm leaving them all like this... for now.

The melodies may cross each other and
so there's more than 5 possible melodies with this rhythm.

Responsorial Psalm
Ps 126:1bc-2ab, 2cd-3, 4-5, 6

R. (5) Those who sow in tears shall reap rejoicing.

When the LORD brought back the captives of Zion,
we were like men dreaming.
Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
and our tongue with rejoicing.
R. Those who sow in tears shall reap rejoicing.

Then they said among the nations,
"The LORD has done great things for them."
The LORD has done great things for us;
we are glad indeed.
R. Those who sow in tears shall reap rejoicing.

Restore our fortunes, O LORD,
like the torrents in the southern desert.
Those that sow in tears
shall reap rejoicing.
R. Those who sow in tears shall reap rejoicing.

Although they go forth weeping,
carrying the seed to be sown,
They shall come back rejoicing,
carrying their sheaves.
R. Those who sow in tears shall reap rejoicing.

Shepherd your people with your staff,
the flock of your inheritance,
That dwells apart in a woodland,
in the midst of Carmel.
Let them feed in Bashan and Gilead,
as in the days of old;
As in the days when you came from the land of Egypt,
show us wonderful signs.

Who is there like you, the God who removes guilt
and pardons sin for the remnant of his inheritance;
Who does not persist in anger forever,
but delights rather in clemency,
And will again have compassion on us,
treading underfoot our guilt?
You will cast into the depths of the sea
all our sins;

You will show faithfulness to Jacob,
and grace to Abraham,
As you have sworn to our fathers
from days of old.

Gospel
Mt 12:46-50

While Jesus was speaking to the crowds,
his mother and his brothers appeared outside,
wishing to speak with him.
Someone told him, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside,
asking to speak with you."
But he said in reply to the one who told him,
"Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?"
And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said,
"Here are my mother and my brothers.
For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father
is my brother, and sister, and mother."

reflect
daily reading & meditation

"Whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister"

Who do you love and cherish the most? God did not intend for us to be alone, but to be with others. He gives us many opportunities for developing relationshipswith family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Why does Jesus seem to ignore his own relatives when they pressed to see him? His love and respect for his mother and his relatives is unquestionable. Jesus never lost an opportunity to teach his disciples a spiritual lesson and truth about the kingdom of God. On this occasion when many gathered to hear Jesus he pointed to another higherreality of relationships, namely our relationship with God and with those who belong to God.

What is the essence of being a Christian? It is certainly more than doctrine, precepts, and commandments. It is first and foremost a relationship – a relationship of trust, affection, commitment, loyalty, faithfulness, kindness, thoughtfulness, compassion, mercy, helpfulness, encouragement, support, strength, protection, and so many other qualities that bind people together in mutual love and unity. God offers us the greatest of relationships – union of heart, mind, and spirit with himself, the very author and source of love (1John 4:8,16). God's love never fails, never forgets, never compromises, never lies, never lets us down nor disappoints us. His love is consistent, unwavering, unconditional, and unstoppable. Nothing can deter him from everleaving us, ignoring us, or treating us unkindly. He will love us no matterwhat. It is his nature to love. That is why he created us – to be united with him and to share in his love and unity of persons (1 John 3:1). God is a trinity of persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – and a community of love. That is why Jesus challenged his followers and even his own earthly relatives to recognize that God is the true source of all relationships. God wants all of our relationships to be rooted in his love.

Jesus is God's love incarnate – God's love made visible in human flesh (1 John 4:9-10). That is why Jesus describes himself as the good shepherd who lays down his life for his sheep and the shepherd who seeks out the sheep who have strayed and lost their way. God is like the father who yearns for his prodigal son to return home and then throws a great party for his son when he has a change of heart and comes back (Luke 15:11-32). Jesus offered up his life on the cross for our sake, so that we could be forgiven and restored to unity and friendship with God. It is through Jesus that we become the adopted children of God – his own sons and daughters. That is why Jesus told his disciples that they would have many new friends and family relationships in his kingdom. Whoever does the will of God is a friend of God and a member of his family – his sons and daughters who have been ransomed by the precious blood of Christ.

An early Christian martyr once said that "a Christian's only relatives are the saints" – namely those who have been redeemed by the blood of Christ and adopted as sons and daughters of God. Those who have been baptized intoJesus Christ and who live as his disciples enter into a new family, a family of "saints" here on earth and in heaven. Jesus changes the order of relationships and shows that true kinship is not just a matter of flesh andblood. Our adoption as sons and daughters of God transforms all of our relationships and requires a new order of loyalty to God first and to his kingdom of righteousness and peace. Do you want to grow in love and friendship? Allow God's Holy Spirit to transform your heart, mind, and will to enable you to love freely and generously as he loves.

our general prayers

.Whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister (from 'Daily Reading & Meditation')… Heavenly Father, you bless us with many relationships and you invite us into the community of your sons and daughters who have been redeemed by your son, Jesus Christ. Help me to love my neighbor with charity, kindness, compassion, and mercy, just as you have loved me. In all of my relationships, and in all that I do and say, may I always seek tobring you honor and glory… Amen.

.Spiritual Communion Prayer… My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You. Never permit me to be separated from you. O Sacrament mostholy, O Sacrament divine, All praise and all thanksgiving, Be every moment thine… Amen.
