News Story ~ Miracle Rescue ~ 3 Seconds from Death ~ The Australian, Thu, Jan 20, 2011, from Front Page cont'd on Page 6

For those of you who love a good story with a happy ending. Some call it Luck, but why lean towards hopelessness when HOPE is a better option. I'm inclined towards calling it a Miracle, and Miracles still happens in our world today.

This happened during the Great Flood of Brisbane (Australia), 2011 January.

Toowoomba's miracle flood survivor revealed

MUSICIAN Hannah Reardon-Smith is the woman who came back from the dead after she and her mother were plunged into last week's catastrophic flash flood in Toowoomba. Feared to have drowned by those who saw her desperate struggle in the maelstrom, it took a public appeal by police for information for the remarkable story of her survival to emerge. Ms Reardon-Smith, 23, and her mother, Kathryn, were trapped in their car in Toowoomba on January 10 when the walls of water smashed through the CBD of the range-top city west of Brisbane. The car was propelled into a power pole. The shocked women climbed on to its roof but were washed into the raging torrent. Two men, Jim Gray and Treg Smith, saw the pair flailing in the water and attempted to reach them but failed. Moments later, dramatic photographs were taken of Ms Reardon-Smith as she tried to fight her way to the safety of the Grand Central Shopping Centre. Her grip on the first-floor railings of the centre's carpark was broken and she was carried out. Those who thought they saw her being dragged under the water presumed the worst. What they missed was Steven Seefeld, in an unobserved part of the carpark, grasping her outstretched hands and hauling her to safety. ''She had no energy left, it was lucky she got to here, because she would have been swept away,'' Mr Seefeld told The Australian yesterday. ''Another three seconds and she would have been dead.'' As soon as Ms Reardon-Smith could catch her breath, she asked after her mother. ''She said: 'My mum's still out there', and then I saw her mum floating past.'' Mr Seefeld called to his friend, tow-truck driver Jason Iacono, who waded into the flood to save Mrs Reardon-Smith. He found her holding on to a road sign. ''She was gasping for breath, puffed and tired. All she could say was, 'My daughter, my daughter'. And I said, 'Don't worry about your daughter, we've got her'.'' Both women were distressed and exhausted, but delighted to have survived. They have since thanked Mr Smith and Mr Gray, who made the initial attempt to reach them. Ms Reardon-Smith, a professional flute player and music teacher, was recovering with her mother last night. Both declined to speak publicly through her father when their family was contacted yesterday by The Australian in Toowoomba. But Ms Reardon-Smith's father, Hugh, confirmed she was indeed the ''mystery'' woman in the photographs released by police on Tuesday. Mr Reardon-Smith said attention should be focused on people much worse off, such as those in the devastated Lockyer Valley below Toowoomba. ''The bottom line is we're really not wanting to talk to anybody, least of all the media, there's been far too much published already, we just want to deal with the trauma by ourselves,'' Mr Reardon-Smith said. Ms Reardon-Smith's MySpace page describes her as a classically trained flautist with ''a penchant for beautiful, interesting and cutting edge contemporary art music''.

Understanding Life's Ups & Downs ~ by Rick Warren

I received this via email...
You may have received this... if you have, please ignore.

Here's my disclaimer:
For those who believe, no proof is necessary...
For those who don't believe, no amount of proof is enough.

You will enjoy the new insights that Rick Warren has, with his wife now having cancer and him having ‘wealth’ from the book sales. This is an absolutely incredible short interview with Rick Warren,

‘Purpose Driven Life ‘ author and pastor of Saddleback Church in California

In the interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren, Rick said:

People ask me, What is the purpose of life? And I respond: In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven.

One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body–but not the end of me.

I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity. This is the warm-up act – the dress rehearsal. God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity.

We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn’t going to make sense.

Life is a series of problems: Either you are in one now, you’re just coming out of one, or you’re getting ready to go into another one.

The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort.

God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy.

We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that’s not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character, in Christ likeness.

This past year has been the greatest year of my life but also the toughest, with my wife, Kay, getting cancer.

I used to think that life was hills and valleys – you go through a dark time, then you go to the mountaintop, back and forth. I don’t believe that anymore.

Rather than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it’s kind of like two rails on a railroad track, and at all times you have something good and something bad in your life.

No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on.

And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for.

You can focus on your purposes, or you can focus on your problems.

If you focus on your problems, you’re going into self-centeredness,’which is my problem, my issues, my pain.’ But one of the easiest ways to get rid of pain is to get your focus off yourself and onto God and others.

We discovered quickly that in spite of the prayers of hundreds of thousands of people, God was not going to heal Kay or make it easy for her.

It has been very difficult for her, and yet God has strengthened her character, given her a ministry of helping other people, given her a testimony, drawn her closer to Him and to people.

You have to learn to deal with both the good and the bad of life.

Actually, sometimes learning to deal with the good is harder. For instance, this past year, all of a sudden, when the book sold 15 million copies, it made me instantly very wealthy.

It also brought a lot of notoriety that I had never had to deal with before. I don’t think God gives you money or notoriety for your own ego or for you to live a life of ease.

So I began to ask God what He wanted me to do with this money, notoriety and influence. He gave me two different passages that helped me decide what to do, II Corinthians 9 and Psalm 72

First, in spite of all the money coming in, we would not change our lifestyle one bit. We made no major purchases.

Second, about midway through last year, I stopped taking a salary from the church.

Third, we set up foundations to fund an initiative we call The Peace Plan to plant churches, equip leaders, assist the poor, care for the sick, and educate the next generation.

Fourth, I added up all that the church had paid me in the 24 years since I started the church, and I gave it all back. It was liberating to be able to serve God for free.

We need to ask ourselves: Am I going to live for possessions? Popularity?

Am I going to be driven by pressures? Guilt? Bitterness? Materialism? Or am I going to be driven by God’s purposes (for my life)?

When I get up in the morning, I sit on the side of my bed and say, God, if I don’t get anything else done today, I want to know You more and love You better. God didn’t put me on earth just to fulfill a to-do list. He’s more interested in what I am than what I do.
That’s why we’re called human beings, not human doings.

Happy moments, PRAISE GOD.
Difficult moments, SEEK GOD.
Quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD.
Painful moments, TRUST GOD.
Every moment, THANK GOD.

Why GOD Allows Pain ~ by PGA

Why GOD allows pain?

The simple answer is ~ Pain warns us that there is something wrong and to not-proceed with something negative which is causing that pain or to do something positive to ease that pain.

But more than that, all pain, trials & tribulation are due to the 'Propagation Of Sin' by man. GOD allows pain so that we know that sin is in existence amongst us so that we can choose to do something about it. This explains why Jesus had to go through his passion on the cross.

When sin is set in motion, we may suffer because of it...
If it does not affect us at this point in time, it may affect the people around us...
If it does not affect the people around us, it may affect someone we have not met.

The only way to stop sin is through penance. Penance is not punishment but an act of sacrifice to stop this ‘Propagation of Sin’. There are people around us who are carrying their crosses, like Jesus & the Saints, to help stop this ‘Propagation of Sin’. I’m sure we know some of them in our lives… but I’m quite sure that all of us will have our crosses to carry. It’s just that some have more prominent crosses than others.

How do we sin?

We sin through our own fault,
1 ~ in our thoughts
2 ~ in our words
3 ~ in what we have done &
4 ~ what we have failed to do

Of all the 4 ways listed above, ‘4 ~ what we have failed to do’ is the most neglected and is called the ‘Sin of Omission’. The above should sound familiar to Catholics; it's the paraphrasing of the 'I Confess'.

Another reason why GOD allows pain is because it comes with the 'Freedom of Choice'. He gave us the 'Freedom of Choice' out of respect to us & for us. This 'Freedom of Choice' comes with the freedom to disobey if we so choose. A famous quote by Mahatma Gandhi explains what freedom actually means. “Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi.

All this was explained to me by a Priest when I was only 17 years old... and it made a lot of sense to me. It is one of a few things that brought me back to the Catholic Faith.

Propagation Of Sin...

Trying To Understand Pain & Suffering
~ by PGA

A priest once explained to me that there's pain & suffering in the world because of the Propagation Of Sin. Our human understanding is not enough to comprehend fully this suffering. God gave us Jesus (His Son) to show us that suffering is necessary, even for the innocent. But like Jesus, we can ask God to take this cup from us; yet not our will, but God's be done. When we see someone suffering, it's NOT necessarily because of his own sin; it may be the sin of others that has been propergated into the world. I believe that God sees all that is happening and will not forget the sufferer's reward in Heaven. Everyone has their own suffering, it's just that sometimes it is not obvious to us. Not all cases of suffering are God's will, but rather due to circumstances of life. Some are very "clear"... for example... we believe that Jesus' Passion is God's Will because it's stated in the Bible, but if it was not in the Bible, then we can only assume that... or think that it's because of those around him who feel politically threatened by his popularity. Which ever the case, it is more important for us to think of it as a cleansing like what Jesus (and his mother) had to go through even though he's totally innocent. When we suffer, we may be going through our own cleansing, or may be, the cleansing of others.

Prayer For The Sick (to Jesus, Mary & God)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tuesday, January 26, 2010 3:45 PM
Just received a prayer request for someone's friend via email.
{Hi – please pray for my friend Name – her cancer has spread and it is showing on the outside, i.e. blisters are popping up and oozing pus around her right side (where the mastectomy/grafting was done), her right arm is badly swollen (twice the normal size) and she can’t lift it. She is now on oral as well as liquid morphine – high dosage. Admitted to NUH again today. Doctors have given her about 3-6 months. She is strong and bears the pain without complaining. Thanks and God Bless. }
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Her description of her friend's sufferings was so graphic that I was moved to tears (as I wrote the prayer) and also to ponder on 'Pain & Sufferings' in the world.

Prayer For The Sick
(to Jesus, Mary & God The Father)

Lord Jesus Christ,
Hear our prayers for NAME.
Help her to unite her sufferings with yours
and if it's your will, may she get better.
Be with her, and let her never forget
that you care for her.

Mary, Our Mother,
Please intercede for us with Jesus, your son,
That she may be cured,
or at least --- may she not feel pain,
or at least --- may her sufferings not be long,
or at least --- may she find Jesus in her sufferings,
or at least --- that her sufferings will not be in vain
with her eternal reward in heaven with God.

Our Father in heaven,
You gave us life.
Surely you'll not take it from us
except to give us eternal life in heaven.
Our human understanding is not enough
to comprehend fully this suffering.
You gave us your son to show us
that suffering is necessary,
even for the innocent.
But like your son,
we ask that you take this cup from us;
Yet not our will, but yours be done.
We make this prayer
through Jesus Christ your son
& his loving mother, Mary.

Amen

Here's an update ~ Wed, Feb 24, 2010 at 2:01 PM
I thank the Lord that I can turn to you for prayers whenever I request them. I have in need of them again. Some of you have been praying for my friend 'B' – the doctors are not going to do much for her anymore. Also, my aunty 'H' has stage 4 pancreatic cancer and will be transferred to Assisi Home & Hospice today. Please join me in praying that they will be comfortable and be at peace for their eternal reward is waiting for them. Thanks much!

Here's an update ~ Monday, March 01, 2010 10:51 AM
Hi – Thanks for your prayers again. My Aunty 'H' passed away peacefully last night. May she rest in peace. My friend 'B' is in a semi-conscious state and in pain. Please continue to pray for her. Thanks and God Bless.

Here's an update ~ Tuesday, 02 March, 2010 9:27 AM
Hi everyone – the Lord has been kind and merciful. My friend 'B' went to meet him yesterday afternoon. May she rest in his arms, Amen.

Final Update ~ Tuesday, 02 March, 2010 9:28 AM

'B' & 'H' have passed away. They were faithful till the end, with their family & friends praying with them, and for them. Like Timothy, they can each say "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." ~ Bible, 2 Timothy 4:7 --- As Catholics, we continue to pray for their souls as we pray for the souls of everyone else we know, and those that we do not know.

Why do people need to suffer & die?
Now, I'm no expert on Pain & Suffering but I hope this article will help. I know that it has helped some of the people; AND I also know that it is of NO use to some of the other people; BUT I do know that it definitely works for me.

Help This Shepherd Be A Lamb ~ Jesus In The Garden

I played Jesus in 1999 and this was one of the songs I had to sing. I found singing it difficult emotionally because it must be difficult for Jesus to bear the sin of the whole world... especially so when he could have easily walked away and not do it.

I sang another song titled 'Thou Hath No Power At All' which can also be found in this blog.

Lyrics:
Help This Shepherd Be A Lamb
~ Jesus In The Garden
.
I am here all alone… praying to you on my knees.
Not my will but your own… may this cup be taken from me.
Yet I know the time has come… the final sacrifice… your only son.
.
Help this shepherd be a lamb… the sacrifice, for mortal man
Help this shepherd be a lamb… that must be slain to bring life… once again.
.
How can I bear the sin of all? Father, will you intercede?
Must the sacrifice be me? Once again I hear my call?
I can feel the agony, the weight of all the sin that’s placed on me.
.
Help this shepherd be a lamb… the sacrifice, for mortal man
Help this shepherd be a lamb… that must be slain to bring life… once again.
Help this shepherd be a lamb...
