or the whole thing in 7/4 which surprisingly sounds very natural.

I don't think anyone but me can understand this.

2nd Beat = peace of 1/8, 1/8
3rd Beat = Christ. = 1/4
4th Beat = Al-le = 1/8, 1/8
5th Beat = lu~ = 1/8, 1/8

7th Beat = Al- = Rest 1/8, 1/8

5/4 ~ Option 1
1st Beat = le~ = 1/8, 1/8
2nd Beat = a-a-a = 1/4 Triplets

I think tune is ancient, along with the Exsultet (Rejoice, heavenly powers! Sing, choirs of angels!).
