Poem ~ Singlish Rap ~ Dinner Tim Sum

1st... the story. I'm going to relate this in Singlish so do NOT check my English.

Friends told us this kopitiam got good Wonton Noodles that opens at 7am. We went there for Breakfast on Monday morning but Wonton Noodles close. Since other stalls were open, we ordered other food.

Wife went to order Kopi (coffee). Sign above this stall showed Kopi. But the grumpy lady there said, "kopi. the other side." When wife pointed to her that the sign say Kopi, she curtly said, "this Chicken Rice Stall... lah!".

This same lady was also serving the Kopi. Wife ordered Kopi and Soft-boiled egg. Soft-boiled egg comes with Hot-water. After waiting a few minutes, wife proceeds to break egg which came out too soft and runny. Lady comes back, sees the egg and says grumpily, "Aiyah, wait 7 minutes laaahhhhh... Aiyooooohhhh!". Wife said, "I am not coming back here, ever again."

There was a Tim Sum Stall there preparing to open so we could not have it for breakfast. It looked good. When wife emailed me and asked "where are we going for dinner?" This is what I wrote.

Dinner...
Tim Sum...
at the same
Ko-pi-tiam,
just don't order drinks
from the lady who thinks
that everyone is stupid
so late say 7 minute
she not nice
say "chicken rice"
when sign...
shows kopi...
her face...
so knot-ty
But we don't care...
we still come,
we come go
for Tim Sum.

Chopstick Scissors ~ by PGA

Here's a video taken by my wife.

Chopstick Scissors ~ by PGA

I actually learned from my mum. When I was young, I saw her do it while feeding me and decided to emulate. It's really just a "scissor action": the chopsticks grip the noodles and then each chopstick goes in opposite direction just like a scissor. Try it with one noodle fist and then to more noodles.

Wonton Noodles ~ at Shun Fu Market (Our Favourite)

I've been eating this almost every morning for years, faithfully from his stall. His name is Mr Lam, and in the picture below is his wife Mrs Lam who serves the customers while he cooks the noodles.

I normally order, 'Wonton Mee, Dry, a lot of Chili and NO Charsiew', Hong Kong Style.

Best is his Wonton Dumplings, Crunchy Noodles, Chili Padi Paste, & Soup (in the mornings only). I would give the Char Siew a miss which my wife might disagree.

They serve it with Black Sauce also if you like.

Most of all I like his attitude. I've seen him when it was tough going but he still took pride in his cooking and made a good plate of wonton noodle. He pressed on every morning till afternoon until he moved to Shun Fu Market. Now his business is very brisk from Breakfast to Lunch.

When you come in from the Bus-Stop,
the shop will be on your right (as in the picture below),
and I am sitting at the table with the stall behind me.

The cook is behind the stall and on
the right of this picture is his wife.

Then it got very busy for them.

Kebun Baru Food Centre ~ AMK St 22

I was at Kebun Baru Food Centre ~ AMK St 22 this morning at 6am.

Kebun Baru Food Centre ~ AMK St 22
Date: Fri, Sep 28, 2012 before 6:56 AM (or 6am to 6:30am)

01-05 Wanton Noodle.
~ first shop I saw after parking. Nice. I detect there is NO MSG and very little salt used. Char Siew pre-sliced thinly, consistently. Soup, pleasant. Noodles... good enough for me. Point to note... one plate cost either $2.50 or $3 and the default is $3 and that was what I got when I ordered without stating my preference... so let them know if you want the $2.50 plate.

01-15 Sin Kim Seng Coffee Stall
~ the Kopi-Kau-Sway (50cents) I drank was nice. I'd drink again.

01-28 ~ Tea House
~ I did NOT drink (have not drunk) here yet. What's interesting here is... while drinking my cup of kopi (from 01-15), I saw a few people drinking their's in a nicer, smaller and more Traditional Cup-n-Saucer (like the one we have at home). I went round looking for it and then noticed that it came from this stall which was run by Indians... what a surprise for me. I remember saying... "drink Kopi from the Chinese Stall and Teh-Tarik from the Indian Stall"... well, if this is as good as it looks... you could get both here. Must try next time I'm there.

Near by... Blk 226-G, AMK Ave 1 or St 22,

01-685 ~ New Generation Confectionery.
Open very early, by 6am they were busy starting their day.
I only a visual observation... has a nice range n variety of cakes, bread, biscuits and kueh-kueh.
