ANSWER to Maths Question ~ 2011 Feb 21 (Algebra Method)

Here's my working & answer to a Maths Question I posted...

Question:
Minah is 18 yrs older than Aishah.

In 6 yrs time, Minah's age will be twice as much as Aishah.

What is Aishah's age now?

Answer:

Let,

Minah be ‘M’

Aishah be ‘A’

We’ve got to find ‘A’ which is Aishah’s age now.

Equation-01 ► M = A + 18

In 6 years time,

Equation-02 ► M + 6 = 2 (A + 6)

Using Equation-02

Substitute the 'M' from Equation-01

     M + 6 = 2 (A + 6)...Equation-02

A + 18 + 6 = 2 (A + 6)...Substitute 'M' from Equation-01

A + 18 + 6 = 2A + 2 x 6...use Basic Algebra Rules to solve

A + 18 + 6 = 2A + 12

    A + 24 = 2A + 12

         A = 2A + 12 – 24

         A = 2A – 12

    A – 2A = – 12

       – A =  – 12

         A = 12

.

Therefore, Aishah's age now is = 12 Years  Old
