SIGHT is what you see with your Eyes; VISION is what you see with your Mind.

SIGHT is what you see with your Eyes;
VISION is what you see with your Mind.

HEAR with your Ears;
LISTEN with your Heart.

Nice... BUT... don't forget that it's simply 'Rhetoric'.

Sight & Vision actually mean the same thing and are actually interchangeable but in recent times people have rhetorically tried to separate the 2 quite effectively actually. But in reality, although they mean the the same, the difference in the 2 seem to be gaining momentum... and I do like the distinction that their division is making... so yeah, they're different after all!

Rhetoric is the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the exploitation of figures of speech and other composition techniques. Although designed to have a persuasive or impressive effect, but is sometimes regarded as lacking in sincerity or meaningful content... sometimes.

Here's an interesting take on Sight & Vision:

EYECARE: THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SIGHT AND VISION

EYESIGHT essentially refers to the physical attributes and performance of the many organic components involved in the visual system. 20/20 vision is a commonly quoted measure of normal vision, yet it simply describes the sensitivity of the eye to see fine detail in the distance.
Unlike eyesight, VISION is a thought process, which emerges an understanding of what is seen, where it is and how to react to it. It combines information from many sensory systems to create a perception of reality. Vision describes a more dynamic and interactive process, essentially a whole information processing system developed through experience to gain understanding of the external visual space world.
For example, in a person driving a car, vision is much more than reading license plates clearly at a distance. Vision is the total process whereby the spatial relationships between the cars are taken in and processed by the driver in order to guide the car safely to its destination, without an accident and with minimum stress. Vision judges the relative speeds of the other cars, and alerts the driver to a pedestrian stepping onto the road or another car at an intersection, or the door of a parked car opening.
Vision is what directs the baseball player to swing the bat at the exact right moment and place in space to make contact and hit a home run.

Eye Witness Accounts ~ by PGA, my thoughts:

[WORLD News. Woman suspect dead, 3 hurt in shooting at YouTube's California headquarters The shooter apparently committed suicide after gunshots erupted at YouTube’s offices, sparking a panicked escape by employees and a massive police response.]

I came into my work office lift and the TV (in this lift) was playing a live coverage of a breaking news where an eye witness was testifying what she saw.

I could not exactly hear what she was saying but this got me thinking about eye witnesses accounts in the Bible. Do we trust them? If we do, why do we and should we?

Ravi Zacharias (an Indian-born Canadian-American Christian apologist) has a good description & guide lines as of how and what to trust.

I must look it up.

Poem & Prayer ~ Light A Candle

===.
Light A Candle

..

Light a candle
say a prayer,
"Hello Father,
are you there?"

We praise
your name,
and welcome
your kingdom,
even while we're
here on this earth,
we do your will,
we really tried to do them.

You know our needs
and all your pain.
When we forgive others,
You'll do the same
for each and every one of us.

This cup is hard to drink from.
Please take this cup from us,
But only if you have willed it.
For only you can quench our thirst.

Amen.

Poem ~ Singlish Rap ~ Dinner Tim Sum

1st... the story. I'm going to relate this in Singlish so do NOT check my English.

Friends told us this kopitiam got good Wonton Noodles that opens at 7am. We went there for Breakfast on Monday morning but Wonton Noodles close. Since other stalls were open, we ordered other food.

Wife went to order Kopi (coffee). Sign above this stall showed Kopi. But the grumpy lady there said, "kopi. the other side." When wife pointed to her that the sign say Kopi, she curtly said, "this Chicken Rice Stall... lah!".

This same lady was also serving the Kopi. Wife ordered Kopi and Soft-boiled egg. Soft-boiled egg comes with Hot-water. After waiting a few minutes, wife proceeds to break egg which came out too soft and runny. Lady comes back, sees the egg and says grumpily, "Aiyah, wait 7 minutes laaahhhhh... Aiyooooohhhh!". Wife said, "I am not coming back here, ever again."

There was a Tim Sum Stall there preparing to open so we could not have it for breakfast. It looked good. When wife emailed me and asked "where are we going for dinner?" This is what I wrote.

from the lady who thinks
that everyone is stupid
so late say 7 minute
she not nice
say "chicken rice"
when sign...
shows kopi...
her face...
so knot-ty
But we don't care...
we still come,
we come go
for Tim Sum.

Chopstick Scissors ~ by PGA

Here's a video taken by my wife.

Chopstick Scissors ~ by PGA

I actually learned from my mum. When I was young, I saw her do it while feeding me and decided to emulate. It's really just a "scissor action": the chopsticks grip the noodles and then each chopstick goes in opposite direction just like a scissor. Try it with one noodle fist and then to more noodles.

Love - Those Chosen for You, Those at Home

Someone asked me for advice... this is what I told her...

===.
Love - Those Chosen for You, Those at Home
(by PGA ~ posted on 2014 Feb 06, 1835 hrs)
If your child does not want to visit the
Kong-2 (Grandfather) and Mama-2 (Grandmother),
be patient, don't scold, just talk calmly about
what a family is, and it is all about LOVE.

Say to to your child.

'If you cannot love those
CHOSEN for you, how are
you... going to love those,
that YOU... have chosen?'.
~ PGA, 2014 Feb 06, 1835 hrs

Everything begins at home, even LOVE.

'If you cannot love, those at HOME, how are
you... going love... those OUTSIDE of home?'
~ PGA, 2014 Feb 06, 1835 hrs

It will pass, one day, I know it will.
When things are all... UN-Certain,
there is always hope.

.
Happy Valentine's Day 2014!

27 years now
You've been good for me
What more can I ask
I am grateful for thee

26 years have passed
How wonderful it has been
To have you by my side
Through all our thick and thin

To you my wife I wish
A Happy Valentine’s Day
And with this wish, I give a smile
And with this smile, a bouquet

Lots of Love,

The Importance of Prayer

Hi all,

I did this for myself... so I thought I'd share it as well.

PGA

===.
~~~
.....
The Importance of Praying For Each Other, The Importance of Prayer
~ by PGA, inspired from a Homily by Fr. Greg Kimm, Pastor
I like this priest's (Father Greg Kimm) homilies. Has a nice flow and it's short, sweet and to the point. I've provided links below if you want to read archives of his other homilies.
Here below, is a sample about 'Praying For Each Other'... this is one of my favorite topics... and... one that I need constant reminder of... because... every now and then... I will forget and question, once again, the usefulness of praying for one another.
I (sort of) get the point now that we should NOT focus on the results but to appreciate it along the lines of us human beings needing company, and especially so when in misery... hence the common saying "misery loves company" (which is actually negative if you try to make others miserable as well... but can be looked on as a natural human need and positive as well). I remember lyrics from a song I heard in an old Talent-Time sung by a Eurasian Girl, Carol Anne Fernandez, dubbed the Singing Nurse (the Eurasians are always singing) that went... "Sweet misery, she loves her company. She's in a crowd when she is all alone." This is only human and it's definitely better than suffering in silence.
Also, whenever there's a game being played, be it football or the likes of it... it makes a lot of difference when there's a home crowd cheering you on... hence the expression "home crowd advantage".
This is (me thinks) what praying for each other basically is. Please remind me when I forget.
Homily by Fr. Greg Kimm, Pastor
Year C
29th Sunday in Ordinary Time, 21 October 2007
I had a friend in college who absolutely hated it when people told him they were praying for him. He said it made him feel that they thought there was something wrong with him. But with apologies to my old friend, I'd have to say that praying for others--and letting them know that you're praying for them--can be a very good thing.
So often when we pray for others we focus only on the result--on whether our prayers seem to be answered. If the people for whom we're praying don't get well, find a job, stay married, or succeed at some venture, we can come to the conclusion that our prayers are useless. But we often forget that the act of praying for others is in itself an expression of our care and support. It is very much like what Aaron and Hur do for Moses in our first reading, when they provide a place for him to rest his weary body and hold up his tired hands as he attempts to lead the people in battle.
Regardless of how things turn out in the end, just the knowledge that we think enough of them to remember them in our prayers, just that awareness that they are prayerfully surrounded by our love, can strengthen and console those for those for whom we pray. And if this is true, isn't it possible that God is working through us? Isn't it possible that our prayers for others and the positive effect they can have on them are all part of God's efforts to answer their prayers?
see Exodus 17:8-13
===.
First Reading
Exodus 17:8-13
As long as Moses kept his hands raised up, Israel had the better of the fight.
A reading from the Book of Exodus
In those days, Amalek came and waged war against Israel.
Moses, therefore, said to Joshua,
 "Pick out certain men,
 and tomorrow go out and engage Amalek in battle.
I will be standing on top of the hill
 with the staff of God in my hand."
So Joshua did as Moses told him:
 he engaged Amalek in battle
 after Moses had climbed to the top of the hill with Aaron and Hur.
As long as Moses kept his hands raised up,
 Israel had the better of the fight,
 but when he let his hands rest,
 Amalek had the better of the fight.
Moses' hands, however, grew tired;
 so they put a rock in place for him to sit on.
Meanwhile Aaron and Hur supported his hands,
 one on one side and one on the other,
 so that his hands remained steady till sunset.
And Joshua mowed down Amalek and his people
 with the edge of the sword.
The word of the Lord.
The difference between 'Belief' & 'Fact'.
.....
The difference between 'Belief' & 'Fact'
'Belief' & 'Fact'... they are NOT the same. It is OK to have a friendly discussion... but it is pointless to argue on anything based on 'Belief' because Wikipedia says that a... "Belief is the psychological state in which an individual holds a proposition or premise to be true" and "a fact (derived from the Latin 'factum') is something that has really occurred or is actually the case. The usual test for a statement of fact is verifiability, that is whether it can be proven to correspond to experience. Standard reference works are often used to check facts. Scientific facts are verified by repeatable experiments". So when you have a view... check to see if it's a 'Belief' or is it a 'Fact'.
A Different Perspective.
Tinted Glass Warning!
The person on the other side
might NOT be able to see you.
~ an original quote by PGA, Wed, Feb 27, 2013 at 9:49 AM
I just had this idea today as I walked through a Tinted-Glass door.
Aside from the literal warning... this serves as a good Quote for the possibilities of 'A Different Perspective'.
"Tinted Glass Warning! The person on the other side might NOT be able to see you."
I searched the internet but could NOT find this... so I'm probably the originator of this.
This sign should be pasted...
on both sides of the glass... unless... there is...
such a language (which I very much doubt)...
that can be read from both sides of the glass.
Who Do We Need to Love? ~ by PGA
First Posted: Wednesday, 2013 Jan 09 at 03:14 PM
Updated: Friday, 2013 Jun 28 at 08:00 AM
We do not need... the whole world to love us... we just need...
the love of those who... WERE... chosen to love us, and
the love of those who... HAVE... chosen to love us.
I do not need... to love the whole world... I just need...
to love those who... HAVE BEEN... chosen for me to love, and
to love those who... I... HAVE... chosen for me to love.
Only after then... we NEED to love...
the whole world... and God above.
For we need the time... on Earth to learn,
as we make our way... to God in heaven
Another Reason To Love ~ "Mild Personality Disorder" ~ by PGA
As I read some articles while surfing the internet, I started to think of the problems husbands & wives have with each other, old parents with their grown-up children, and basically the problems people have with each other in general. The answer, for me at least, are in these words... "Mild Personality Disorder". It does not explain much, but it does help... explain to me... and it helps me understand, although explaining it will be difficult. I don't know if this explanation will help others as well.
All of us have, to some degree, a personality disorder of some kind... not necessarily significant enough to be admitted to a Mental Institution, but a "Mild Personality Disorder" just the same. This means, we will never be able to fully understand each other. All we can do is to continue loving each other, with this understanding that we all have a "mild" personality disorder that prevents us from being the person that our loved ones expect of us... and we... of our loved ones.
It is through unpleasantness that we really understand the meaning of what it means to love. For if everything was nice & smooth... loving would be too easy... and we are not really tested on what it really means to love.
Who's smart? Who's stupid? ~ by PGA
Never underestimate
what the mind can do.
If the stupid are smart,
then the smart have
more... learning to do.
Who's smart? Who's stupid?
It's all in our minds,
but our minds don't get it.
Leave it alone,
it springs a surprise.
Try to work it,
it breaks down in size.
Never underestimate
what the mind can do.
Who's smart? Who's stupid?
I leave it to you.
Political Rhetoric Exchange ~ Mitt Romney versus Ted Kennedy
This happened during the fight for the American Presidency in 2012 between Barrack Obama (the incumbent) and Mitt Romney (the challenger).
Barrack Obama's camp played an old video of Mitt Romney's debate with Ted Kennedy which made Mitt Romney look bad.
From my own observation on the internet, most seem to give Ted Kennedy the support. This may be true because of his work for the people which I hear/read a lot on the internet.
However, if I were to solely base on this debate, I think Mitt Romney did very well... and probably lost NOT because of this debate, BUT because he did not do enough work that would get people to notice him.
From observing these 2 videos... I'd give this round to Mitt Romney. But if you think I support Mitt Romney... you didn't understand what I'm writing about.
Personally, I like Barrack Obama, but this round (for me a least) goes to Mitt Romney.
While writing this post... I just heard Mitt Romney on TV make this statement... "President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans, and to heal the planet. My promise is to help you and your family." ... which was made before this video was played... and I think, this is just another rhetoric statement.
I guess they're about even now... but... what do I know?
===.
(This video is the excerpt to make Mitt Romney look bad and this is badly
taken out of context. This is bad sportsmanship... very, very bad.
They even played this at their convention. Shame, shame.)
DNC Airs Tribute Video To Ted Kennedy Featuring Mitt Romney
(This video is the debate (Part 1 of 2) which shows Mitt Romney's stand clearly in full context. You be the judge if the above video was indeed taken out of context.)
Massachusetts Senatoral Debate - 10/25/94 [FULL] Ted Kennedy and Mitt Romney
A young 47 year old Mitt Romney challenges the seemingly invincible Ted Kennedy for his seat in the US Senate. At the time, Mitt Romney was like 20 points down in the polls and had to come out swinging, and that's exactly what he did. Mitt Romney ended up losing this election but it helped him gain valuable experience in the political environment which proved useful when he was elected Governor of Massachusetts in 2002 and the Republican nominee for President in 2012. Quite a great debate by both sides and highly entertaining to watch.
I was not able to find any full clips of this entire debate on YouTube, only little bits and pieces mostly used in an attempt to make Mr. Romney look bad today for his pro-choice stance he had back then. I took the liberty of uploading the full debate here. I hope you enjoy this incredible gem of history as much as I do.
This is debate 1 of 2 of this election. The 2nd debate was 2 days later on 10/27, and I also have that full debate uploaded as well (check my channel).
On Belief & Trust ~ by PGA
This 'not-believing-in-what-you-are-telling-me'..
does Not Equate to 'not-believing-in-you'.
It's not that I do not believe you. I do believe you.
I do believe, that what you are telling me, is what you perceive as the truth.
I have no doubts in my mind that you are being honest with me.
So I do believe you and I trust you.
It is just that I don't believe in 'what' you are telling me.
I believe that, right now, we are not in disagreement with one another.
In fact, if anything... we should trust each other... and I do trust you.
It is just that we are not in agreement with subject on hand.
We don't see eye to eye on this matter.
This has nothing to do with believing and / or trusting you.
This has nothing to do with trust.
This is just a disagreement in the subject and NOT in each other.
That's all.
My Double Recording Idea ~ It's Becoming A Reality
You'll soon have to put away your iPHONEs and Smart Phones because my 'Double Recording' idea is becoming a reality. It has been many years now that I've been thinking of what I call, 'Double Recording'. I got this idea while working in the Air Force, and one of the equipment I had the opportunity to chance upon was the Talk-Down Recorder. The Talk-Down Recorder had 2 Tapes recording the dialog between the Pilot and the Air-Traffic Controller. The purpose of this Talk-Down Recorder was for the purpose investigation should there ever be a mis-communication. Why were there 2 Tapes? Well, if one was stopped, the other would still be recording and there will be no loss of crucial evidence should it ever arise. Changing of tapes was necessary also because each tape had only a limited amount of recording time. This was where I came up with the term and idea for 'Double Recording' to be used in our daily lives. Should there ever be a need to investigate what really happened, in as simple as a quarrel between 2 loving couples to as complicated as evidence needed in the court of law, this double recording will be extreme useful. My Double Recording idea... hmm... it is fast becoming a reality; read this article dated Monday 2012 Apr 23, Page 6 in this TODAY Newspaper.
