They're Only Words ~ by PGA

Paraphrasing the Bee Gees, "...they're only words, but words are all we have...", we can't help but contradict ourselves from time to time. Read on... and maybe... you'll find out what I'm trying to say.

Careful, how you follow the quotes of others. Take Steve Jobs' quote here for example...

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."  ~ Steve Jobs, US computer engineer & industrialist (1955 - 2011)

This is all fine and good if you're a high-achiever like Steve Job.

But let us face the facts. By statistics, most of us are NOT high-achievers. Remember the anecdote that goes "If everyone is rich than nobody is rich..."? Well, the same can be said for high-achievers... "If everyone is a high-achiever than nobody is a high-achiever."

And since most of us are not high-achievers than we should not follow this quote too closely... we should exercise our "own inner voice".

Also, this particular quote is telling us NOT to follow it... if you read it carefully.

Here's what it's saying... "Your time is limited {this is true, no doubt about it}, so don't waste it living someone else's life {this includes Steve Job's life... we're not him and we never will be}. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking {yes, by all means, don't be trapped by dogmas, but a lot of things in life cannot be explained and some dogmas help to simplify it... it helps us move on}. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice {again... not qualifying if opinion is good or bad, if opinion is good... we should let it drown out our wrongful inner voice}. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition {personally, I think everybody is already doing it}. They somehow already know what you truly want to become {most of us are achieving or goals, even those who are lazy... that's what they really want to become}. Everything else is secondary. {beautifully said... but coming full circle, it means little}"

Always keep your mind open when reading what others have to say... and even as you're reading this article of mine.... for "...they're only words, but words are all we have...", we can't help but contradict ourselves from time to time... and I am no different.
