A Heart Touching Story

Someone sent me this well written short story via email.

~~~
.
I was walking around in a Big Bazaar store making shopping, when I saw a Cashier talking to a little boy who couldn't have been more Than 5 or 6 years old. The Cashier said, 'I'm sorry, but you don't have enough money to buy this doll. Then the little boy turned to me and asked: ''Auntie, do I have enough money?'' I counted his cash and replied: ''You know that you don't have enough money to buy the doll, my dear.'' The little boy was Still holding the doll in his hand. Finally, I walked toward him and I asked him who he wished to give this doll to. 'It's the Doll that my sister loved most and wanted so much. I wanted to Gift her for her BIRTHDAY. I have to give the doll to my mommy so that she can give it to my sister when she goes there.' His eyes were so sad while saying this. 'My Sister has gone to be with God. Daddy says that Mommy is going to see God very soon too, so I thought that she could take the doll with her to give it to my sister. '' My heart nearly stopped. The little boy looked up at me and said: 'I told daddy to tell mommy not to go yet. I need her to wait until I come back from the mall.' Then he showed me a very nice photo of him where he was laughing. He then told me 'I want mommy to take my picture with her so my sister won't forget me.' 'I love my mommy and I wish she doesn't have to leave me, but daddy says that she has to go to be with my little sister...' Then he looked again at the doll with sad eyes, very quietly. I quickly reached for my wallet and said to the boy. 'Suppose we check again, Just in case you do have enough money for the doll?'' 'OK' he said, 'I hope I do have enough..' I added some of my money to his with out him seeing and we started to count it. There was enough for the doll and even some spare money. The little boy said: 'Thank you God for giving me enough money!' Then he looked at me and added, 'I asked last night before I went to sleep for God to make sure I had enough money to buy this doll, so that mommy could give It to my sister. He heard me!'' 'I also wanted to have enough money to buy a white rose for my mommy, but I didn't dare to ask God for too much. But He gave me enough to buy the doll and a white rose. My mommy loves white roses.' I finished my shopping in a totally different state from when I started. I couldn't get the little boy out of my mind. Then I remembered a local news paper article two days ago, which mentioned a drunk man in a truck, who hit a car occupied by a young woman and a little girl. The little girl died right away, and the mother was left in a critical state. The family had to decide whether to pull the plug on the life-sustaining machine, because the young woman would not be able to recover from the coma. Was this the family of the little boy? Two days after this encounter with the little boy, I read in the news paper that the young woman had passed away... I couldn't stop myself as I bought a bunch of white roses and I went to the funeral home where the body of the young woman was exposed for people to see and make last wishes before her burial. She was there, in her coffin, holding a beautiful white rose in her hand with the photo of the little boy and the doll placed over her chest. I left the place, teary-eyed, feeling that my life had been changed for ever. The love that the little boy had for his mother and his sister is still, to this day, hard to imagine. And in a fraction of a second, a drunk driver had taken all this away from him.
Chilli House ~ Peranakan Cuisine
===.
Latet Update:
Not selling anymore.
===.
Original Entry:
Baba Peranakan food in a coffeeshop. My favourite was the Bak Wan Soup but I checked last Friday, 2010Sep17... they said they don't sell that anymore... sigh! Well, maybe they'll do it again. Contact info at the end of this BLOG entry.
Anyway... a lot of people will say that it's not the same as authentic home cooked Baba Peranakan food. While that may be true in some cases, I always ask "What is authentic?". The dishes themselves will taste differently from one home to the next as it is prepared with variations to the recipe. Some of these people don't eat this food at home coz they've stopped cooking for various reasons but still say the same thing.... now how can that be true.
Car Repair Expert
Recommended by my daughter's friend. Very friendly. Provides affordable and excellent work. To date, I’ve used him twice. The first time, I needed the front spoiler to be mended and he charged the cheapest of 3 places that I visited. The second time I called him to help me change my tires and he didn’t want to charge me for it. He has a motto here below.
Joke ~ If you don't know GOD...
Someone sent me this joke via email. I don't fully agree with everything written here, but I must admit that I found it funny so I hope you enjoy the joke.
To all who don't believe in God, beware how you speak and here's why.
~~~
If you don't know GOD...
don't make stupid remarks!

A United States Marine was taking some college courses between assignments. He had completed 20 missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.

One of the courses had a professor who was an avowed atheist, and a member of the ACLU.

One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, "GOD, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform... I'll give you exactly 15 min."

The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, "Here I am GOD, I'm still waiting."

It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him; knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold. The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently. The other students were shocked and stunned, and sat there looking on in silence.

The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked, “What in the world is the matter with you? Why did you do that?"

The Marine calmly replied, "GOD is too busy today protecting America's soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid stuff and act like an idiot. So He sent me."

The classroom erupted in cheers!

Note: It wasn't so funny when I read it the 2nd time... oh well...

Wishes for House Warming (Come Blessing)

by PGA, 2010 Sep 13, Saturday

A soul like a bird needs a place to rest
No matter how far it may roam
But remember to make your rest-place warm
As you make your house a home

A Home is a place where one finds rest
Far away from this crazy world we live in
Where one's family will always be there
Where one is loved from deep within

It matters not what life throws at you
Or when trouble get's you down
A home with loved ones to keep you warm
Is what matters most, I've found

So warm wishes I wish you & your loved ones
As your house warming comes, blessings draw near
May you and your loved ones fill your home with love
And may days at home be filled with cheer

Math or Maths?

I’ve often wondered… well… this guy explains it very well.

~~~
Math or Maths? ~ by Simon Kewin
http://www.dailywritingtips.com/math-or-maths/
Is “math” or “maths” the correct word to use as the shortened or colloquial form of the word mathematics? The answer is that it depends on where you are.
To North American speakers of English, the word to use is “math”, as in “I majored in math”, and “maths” would sound wrong. Speakers of British English, however, would always say “maths”, as in “I took a degree in maths”. They would never say “math”.
There are logical arguments for both spellings. The word “mathematics” can be considered as a singular and as a plural noun. Both the Oxford and the Merriam-Webster dictionaries say the word is plural – hence the s on the end – but also that it is usually used as if it was a singular noun. So, most people would say “mathematics is my best subject” and not “mathematics are my best subject”. The shortened form “maths”, then, makes sense because the word is still a plural noun and so should still have the “s” on the end. On the other hand, it could be argued, “math” makes sense because it seems wrong to remove the letters “ematic” from the middle of the word and leave the final “s”.
There are a number of other plural nouns that are used as if they were singular – for example economics, ethics, politics, gymnastics, measles and dominoes. These words, however, are not habitually shortened, making math/maths rather an unusual word.
It’s sometimes surprising how much argument and disagreement small differences such as that single letter can make. Readers in the UK, for example, sometimes get very upset if someone writes “math” rather than “maths”. No doubt the reverse is true in the US. In practice, it’s simply worth being aware of the geographical differences so that you can use the correct form of the word in your writing.
Story Of The Prince & His Bride
I did not write this. I received this via email from a friend who's very active with 'Daily Nourishments', an inspiring form of prayer via email for those who know her. I do like the way this story is presented. If you love fairy tales, trying reading this for a change.
Story Of The Prince & His Bride
A Christian Fairy Tale based on a True Story of Love
.
The palace is built: golden banqueting rooms, lavish salons, huge kitchens; rose gardens are planted and a great area is landscaped with fountains and waterfalls. But who is it for? Locals wonder, but generation after generation watch in vain. The seers and wise ones write about a prince whom they believe will one day come, hoping that he will arrive in their generation. But the time is not yet right, and each in turn dies without ever seeing his face. They know that when he comes it will be for his bride. But when? They can only record the signs of his coming, so a future generation will know. Angels hover around the palace, wondering when it will all happen, longing to know the details, for this is the greatest love story the world has ever known.
.
Then one day the prince arrives, alone. The palace doors are flung open and everything is made ready. She must be coming! The prince goes into the streets and in the darkest alleyway he finds a bedraggled girl in the gutter, filthy and covered in sores. 'Surely not!' say the locals. There is nothing attractive about her – and rumour has it that she has been with other men. She is surrounded by rogues and he must fight for her, suffer for her – even die for her. But he marries her, just as she is, and establishes her in the palace. There, in secret, he lovingly serves her, tends her wounds, heals her from her past. Miraculously, as the years go by, she blossoms. And, as she trusts in him and relaxes in his love, somehow she becomes like him. And from her rags, a great beauty emerges.
.
We are His chosen ones, His Cinderella bride. Prophets on tiptoe, angels longing, the Christ dying. And it was all for us.
.
Bible References to the above story
~~~
Ephesians 5:22-32
[22]Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. [23]For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. [24]Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. [25]Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her [26]to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, [27]and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. [28]In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. [29]After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church— [30]for we are members of his body. [31]"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." [32]This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.

Store Your Treasures In Heaven

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." ~ Matthew 6:19-21

The Night-Soil Carrier

I just received via email, the links to 3 BLOGS about this occupation that is no longer existent in Singapore. I do remember seeing the ‘Night-Soil Carrier’ when I stayed at my cousin's home during some weekends and I would run to the other end of the house, and I was glad that the house was huge. Although the job title says ‘Night-Soil Carrier’, I remembered seeing them during the day. What did they do? Well, in the days of the Bucket System when we did our "toilet-duty" into a bucket, the Night-Soil Carrier's job was to clear the dirty bucket and replace it with a clean one. I remember seeing them carrying 2 buckets balanced at the ends of one stick slung over their shoulder. Now you know why I avoided them.

I can't help think of an Ad on TV about 'The Carrier Man' sung to the tune of 'The Candy Man'. Here are some lyrics to sing to, give it a try...

~~~
The Night-Soil Carrier Man ~ Song Lyrics
(sung to the tune of 'The Candy Man')
Who will clean your bucket?
When you've done your POO
Who will clean your bucket and return it back to you
The Carrier Man can,
The Night-Soil Carrier Man can
The Carrier Man can coz he cleans it up with love
So when you need it it's good... and clean
Enough said & sung.
My Prayer ~ by Andrew Lee
Dear Father, it's me again.
How are You today?
I know You are busy up there.
But You still find time for me today.
Allow me to start my litany.
Thank you for this wonderful day.
Though it have its ups and downs,
Thank you for being there for me today.
Thank you for the gift of sight,
For I can marvel at Your awesome creation of art.
I pray for those who cannot see,
That they may experience the wonders in their heart.
Thank you for these hands of mine,
For Thy work is done thru these humble hands.
I pray for those who are disabled,
That they are led by Your gentle hands.
Thank you for the family I have,
The love and tender care that it brings.
I pray for those who have no families,
That they are comforted the same each day brings.
Thank you for the friends I have,
For the joy and laughter that they bring.
I pray for the lonely people out there,
That they find their happiness only You can bring.
Thank you for the gift of prayer,
And all the prayers that You have answered.
I pray for those who cannot pray,
That their heart's sincere desire may be answered.
Thank you for the job that I have,
For it gives me hope in times of need.
I pray for those who are jobless,
That they are able to make ends meet.
Thank you for Your Son,
The spotless Lamb that was slay.
I pray that we will be inspired by Him,
To live life fulfilled the Christian way.
So Father, it's time to go now,
For You have tasks to run about.
May You grant these prayers of mine.
Till then, me... signing out.
Forever In His Care (Music Excerpt)
Here's an Excerpt of this song
Lyrics:
Forever, Forever, Forever in HIS care!
Why GOD Allows Pain ~ by PGA
Why GOD allows pain?
The simple answer is ~ Pain warns us that there is something wrong and to not-proceed with something negative which is causing that pain or to do something positive to ease that pain.
But more than that, all pain, trials & tribulation are due to the 'Propagation Of Sin' by man. GOD allows pain so that we know that sin is in existence amongst us so that we can choose to do something about it. This explains why Jesus had to go through his passion on the cross.
When sin is set in motion, we may suffer because of it...
If it does not affect us at this point in time, it may affect the people around us...
If it does not affect the people around us, it may affect someone we have not met.
The only way to stop sin is through penance. Penance is not punishment but an act of sacrifice to stop this ‘Propagation of Sin’. There are people around us who are carrying their crosses, like Jesus & the Saints, to help stop this ‘Propagation of Sin’. I’m sure we know some of them in our lives… but I’m quite sure that all of us will have our crosses to carry. It’s just that some have more prominent crosses than others.
How do we sin?
We sin through our own fault,
1 ~ in our thoughts
2 ~ in our words
3 ~ in what we have done &
4 ~ what we have failed to do
Of all the 4 ways listed above, ‘4 ~ what we have failed to do’ is the most neglected and is called the ‘Sin of Omission’. The above should sound familiar to Catholics; it's the paraphrasing of the 'I Confess'.
Another reason why GOD allows pain is because it comes with the 'Freedom of Choice'. He gave us the 'Freedom of Choice' out of respect to us & for us. This 'Freedom of Choice' comes with the freedom to disobey if we so choose. A famous quote by Mahatma Gandhi explains what freedom actually means. “Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi.
All this was explained to me by a Priest when I was only 17 years old... and it made a lot of sense to me. It is one of a few things that brought me back to the Catholic Faith.
Ω
Believing In God?
.
Believing In God? ~ For me, this is easy coz it just makes a lot of sense.
Believing In Which Religion? ~ For me, this one very difficult & a LOT more difficult for those who don't believe.
I heard a priest say this in one of the Movies of Mary's apparition when a non-believer asked why the people were flocking to see Mary.
For those who believe,
No proof is necessary;
For those who do NOT believe
No amount of proof is enough.
~ One of the Movies of Mary's apparition
(I can't remember)
Whatever you give a woman, she's going to multiply it
I didn't write this... but I do believe most of it... if not all.
Looks like it's directed at men in general.
~~~.
Whatever you give a woman, she's going to multiply it.
If you give her sperm, she'll give you a baby.
If you give her a house, she'll give you a home.
If you give her groceries, she'll give you a meal.
If you give her a smile, she'll give you her heart.
She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her.'
So - if you give her any crap , you will receive a ton of shit!

Methods To Search This Blog

(as well as other Blogs)
.
This should also be at the Right-Side of this BLOG. Note that this does not search the 'Labels'... so if the word appears only in the 'Labels' it will not show up in the search. To search 'Labels', use 'Find This Page' (see next point).
.
• Find This Page ~ (via 'Ctrl+F' or via 'Edit>Find This Page')
This searches this page only. Example, searching for 'bejewel' will still find 'bejeweled' in the LABELS list. Also very useful for searching the Labels.
.
• Advanced Blog Search
by Google's BlogSearch (from the 2 links shown just below here)
        • http://blogsearch.google.com/
         http://blogsearch.google.com.sg/
Best used with advance search and remember to fill in the 'Blog URL' box for the Blog that you want to search. Very useful coz it offers suggestions. Example, while searching for 'bejewel', it will still suggest 'bejeweled' if bejewel is nowhere else on the Blog. There's a slight difference between the 2 links above, so slight, I can't tell the difference.

Prayer for Those In Quarrels & Arguments

.
"I’ve learned that… no one is right in an argument… it is only because we haven't yet learnt that we are created to be different in our values and opinions… yet I remember that love is the initial plan in God's project…" ~ age 26…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Prayer for Those In Quarrels & Arguments
Father, we pray for those who are experiencing quarrels and arguments or engaging in different sets of values and opinions within family members… be it a grandparent-to-grandchild, parent-to-child, sibling-to-sibling, husband-to-wife, uncle/aunt-to-niece/nephew, godparent-to-godchild or in vice versa situations, may they learn to pray that You might come in their midst to learn to pray for one another… learn to love one another once again by not exchanging hurting words (that do not come from You)… learn to listen to one another and assess themselves first without making quick judgments upon others… appreciate how they've been bound by relationships in the beginning... Amen.
Singapore Music ~by Joe Wu & Vernon Cheong
Singapore during the 1950s 1960s will be very grateful to the people (namely Joe Wu & Vernon Cheong... many, many thanks) who set up these Websites so that you can re-live the memories they bring as you walk down Memory Lane.
Check them out! Enjoy!
These video and audio clips were uploaded here especially for the fans who grew up in Singapore or Malaysia in the 1950's and 1960's, and are now living far, far away from your childhood home.Those good old days... Our very own local stars... The QUESTS, The CRESCENDOS with SUSAN LIM, The TRAILERS, NAOMI and The BOYS, The THUNDERBIRDS, The JETS, The CYCLONES, The CHECKMATES, The SUNDOWNERS, The SILVER STRINGS, The STYLERS, RITA CHAO, SAKURA, plus so many, many more.We also remember these international stars who made an impact... with a local flavour.ANNEKE GRONLOH, The BLUE DIAMONDS, SANDRA REEMER, and BOY and His ROLLIN' KIDS from The Netherlands. And The FABULOUS ECHOES from Hong Kong.
